Two Weeks of Focused, Traditional Practice

Sadhana Intensive is a rigorous two-week residential programme designed by Swami Vishnudevananda, based on his personal sadhana in the Himalayas. It is open to graduates of the Sivananda Teachers’ Training Course who are ready to deepen their hatha yoga practice and move towards greater inner discipline.

This is not a general yoga course. It is meant for sadhakas willing to observe silence, stay within the ashram throughout, and follow a strict sattvic diet-with no free days, no use of phone or internet, and no salt, spice, tea, or sugar.

The goal is to develop stamina, discipline, inner strength, and clarity. Many repeat this course to go deeper each time. The environment at Tapaswini Ashram-quiet, traditional, and free from distractions—supports this level of focused work.

This is a rare opportunity to intensify your practice and sharpen your awareness. Serious effort brings lasting results.

Students share how their self-practice is going and Acharya offers guidelines for the next practice

This is the time that students take for their own practice, based on the guidance provided by the Acharya

Khichdi is served during the Sadhana Intensive because it is light, sattvic, and easy to digest, helping conserve energy, calm the prāṇa, and reduce distractions for deep practice.

Daily study of the Bhagavad Gita and regular chanting of Sanskrit mantras deepen understanding, focus the mind, and connect students to the roots of the yogic tradition.

Going beyond asana and pranayama students dive into Hatha Yoga Pradipika to prepare the body and energy system.Vivekachudamani prepares the mind and inner attitude.

Simple wholesome food to facilitate the deep sadhana that students are undergoing

This practice is to cultivate devotion, surrender, and a heart-centred understanding of the ultimate goal of yoga beyond technique.

Silence is observed to support rest, inner reflection, and integration of the day’s practice. Early sleep helps maintain energy and focus throughout the course.
