Mana is a village located just 5 km away from Badrinath is the last Indian village settlement just 24 km away from Indo-China border. The significance of the place is that it has two very ancient caves – Vyasa gufa and Ganesha gufa.

About

Vyasa gufa is the cave which is 5328 years old as of 2020, in which Sage Vyasa has written numerous scriptures and commentaries including the great Indian epic Mahabharata. The Mahabharata was actually dictated by Vyasa and penned down by his scribe, Lord Ganesha, who sat in Ganesha gufa when he did so. Ganesha used his broken tusk as a pen for the work. This was the place where Adi Shakaracharya met Veda Vyasa. Vyasa is considered to be immortal and said to be still alive.

Near the caves, flows one of the tributaries of Alakinanda called Saraswati. Saraswati is the Goddess of wisdom and it is said that the place has powerful spiritual vibrations which made Sage Vyasa choose it for doing his scriptural work.
