“In Savasana, the whole system is refreshed and rejuvenated.”
~ Swami Vishnudevananda, The Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga

Proper Relaxation (Savasana)

Most people confuse rest with distraction—scrolling a phone, watching videos, or switching tasks. The body may be still, but the mind remains active. True relaxation means releasing both physical and mental tension.

Savasana looks simple: lying flat on the back. The challenge is staying aware while letting go. You consciously relax each part of the body—from the toes to the face—while observing the breath. This resets the nervous system.

Think of it like charging a battery. Without proper rest, energy drains faster than it is restored. Even a short period of deep relaxation can improve clarity and productivity more than pushing through fatigue.

With practice, you learn to recognise tension as it builds and release it early. This prevents burnout and keeps the mind steady during demanding situations.
Relaxation is not optional. It is what allows effort to be sustainable.
