“Yoga Asanas are designed to develop the body and make it more flexible.”
~ Swami Vishnudevananda, The Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga

Proper Exercise (Asana)

The body needs movement, but not strain. Asanas work by stretching and strengthening muscles, improving circulation, and keeping the spine flexible. A simple example: after sitting at a desk for hours, the back feels tight and the mind dull. A few rounds of Surya Namaskar or gentle forward bends can reset both. The difference is immediate—you feel lighter, more awake, and more present.

Asanas are not about performance. You hold each posture with awareness, breathe steadily, and avoid pushing beyond your capacity. This approach builds strength without tension. Over time, the body becomes more responsive and less prone to fatigue or injury.

The real shift happens when movement becomes mindful. You stop exercising just to burn calories and begin to feel how the body functions. That awareness carries into daily life—how you sit, stand, and move.
