Beginners’ Yoga Course

Begin with confidence | Learn incrementally | Build a steady practice

The Beginners’ Yoga Course is the entry point to the Sivananda Yoga tradition. It introduces the fundamentals of yoga in a clear, systematic way, making it suitable for those with no previous experience as well as for students returning to practice after a break.

The course focuses on building a safe and balanced foundation. You learn basic yoga postures, breathing techniques, relaxation, and simple principles of yogic lifestyle. Classes are taught step by step, with careful attention to alignment, breath, and individual capacity. This allows the body to adapt gradually while the mind learns to settle.

The course is taught at Sivananda Centres across India by trained teachers following a classical system of instruction. The emphasis is on understanding, consistency, and personal guidance rather than performance. Many students use the Beginners’ Course to establish a regular practice, improve overall wellbeing, and prepare for deeper study such as continued classes or the Teachers’ Training Course (offered only at our ashrams).

This course offers more than physical exercise. It introduces yoga as a complete system that supports physical health, mental clarity, and inner balance, while remaining practical and relevant to daily life.
