Overview & Pre-requisites

From the land where Yoga originated, we bring you the June 2022 Online Teachers’ Training Course with suitable timings for residents of Europe to have the Indian ashram experience from the comfort of their own home.

The Online Teachers’ Training Course is based on the ancient gurukula system and it follows the same schedule and discipline as our onsite courses here in India. Discipline is an important part of the course and students are guided to maintain discipline and a proper diet while attending from home.

The daily schedule begins early morning and ends late evening for four weeks, with one day off per week and several breaks during the day to rest, do homework and other duties. 100% participation in the classes is required to receive certification. The course is conducted in English live from India.

Attendance of the entire TTC daily schedule is mandatory.


  • The goal of the programme is to produce qualified and inspiring yoga teachers who are able to draw on their own practice and personal discipline in imparting the yoga experience to others. The curriculum is based on the five points of yoga as taught by Swami Vishnudevananda, which can be understood as the practical application of the traditional four paths of yoga. The intensive daily schedule includes:

    • two satsangs • two asana classes • t​wo​ lectures

    One day a week is lecture-free.

The six classical purification exercises for the eyes, nose, air passages, oesophagus and stomach, abdominal organs and large intestine. Explanation and demonstration of the exercises and their effects. Individual instruction.

  • Students will be evaluated on their participation in the programme and attitude towards the various aspects of the course. In addition, students will be evaluated on:
    • 2 hatha yoga classes taught online during the course
    • An open book final exam conducted online on the last day
  • A demonstration of hands-on yoga asana corrections performed online. For this assessment students will need to arrange for someone on whom to demonstrate the corrections
  • Homework will be assigned daily and must be submitted on time for the 2 pm lecture.
  • As part of the in-person participation at the ashram during a future TTC, students will be required to teach one evaluated Open Class and write the final exam with the TTC students.


  • At the end of the four-week period online successful students are certificated for online teaching.
  • To be eligible for our regular world-wide TTC certificate, the online students are required to attend at least the final week of an onsite TTC course at one of the ashrams in South India within two years of this online TTC. Attendance of two weeks is preferable and will give more opportunity to the trainee to improve teaching skills.
  • For the onsite attendance, students are required to register with the ashram a month in advance and will pay Yoga Vacation rates for their stay.
  • During the onsite attendance of TTC course, the students will participate fully in the ongoing TTC schedule including karma yoga, evaluation for teaching one Open Class, and writing of the final exam (based on the same manual as for the online TTC).  Successful completion will result in presentation of the 200 hours TTC Diploma recognised by Yoga Alliance (YA).
  • Students must complete at least one week at the ashram as above to be eligible to attend the Advanced Teachers’ Training Course (ATTC) or Sadhana Intensive Course (SI).


Course requirements and prerequisites:

  • Minimum age 18 years
  • Some previous experience with yoga
  • Ideally the student is already able to come into the headstand without assistance.
  • Ideally the student can arrange efficient preparation of meals and execution of household responsibilities or can get help with these.
  • All classes are mandatory, so family, social and any work commitments should be managed in the free time available.
  • A quiet private space, clean and tidy, for practice and lectures, separate from other household activities. An altar of uplifting photos or murtis is recommended as a focal point for meditation within the room.

Technology Requirements for Students:

  • Strong internet connection preferably broadband, clear camera and microphone.
  • At least 5-6 GB of data per day or 250 GB of data throughout the course at a minimum. (Check plans of different data providers).
  • A laptop rather than a cellphone is essential for the hatha yoga classes. Homework can be done through email but the exam will be in MSWord.
  • A cellphone can be kept for connectivity back up but students can only sign-in to class with one device.

  • Classes will not be recorded and the student will be required to attend every class in order to pass the course.

Student Guidelines

  • Phone/Media: Phone use or calls during class hours are not permitted.  Apart from your classes, limit the time you spend online to only that which is necessary.  Avoid television & movies as much as possible during the course days.
  • Course Manual: Will be speed posted students.
  • Uniforms: Students are required to wear comfortable, loose fitting, non-revealing clothing during all sessions and to wear a yellow t-shirt or kurta or shirt for the lectures and satsangs.   The SYVC uniform will be provided on arrival for the ashram onsite attendance.
  • Homework: Daily homework will be assigned and must be completed on time for the 2 pm lecture.
  • Karma Yoga:  This will be required during the on-site attendance at the ashram.
  • Counselling: The teachers will provide counselling as requested by appointment during the free times in the day.
  • Meals:  Keep a sattvic vegetarian diet during the course, including the days off. You will notice a positive effect on your practice.
  • Kriyas will be practiced and demonstrated during the second week of the course. The materials required will be informed and can be acquired from a pharmacy or online.

Cancellation Policy

  • If a registrant cancels before the course starts, payment will be refunded minus USD100 and only after the TTC manual has been returned, if this has already been dispatched from India.
  • There will be no partial or full refund possible in any other circumstances.
